Most of us have become familiar with one of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) mantras:  “You will own nothing and be happy.”  This deceptive lie was formulated by one of the most evil, political/philosophic antichrist leaders today... Yuval Noah Harari.  The lie is a deceptive attempt to take away our wealth, possessions, independence and make us subservient to government.  Government is promised to supply all our needs and bring us happiness.  After reading Romans 1:18-32; 3:10-18, we know this is a blatant lie.  Secular, human government will always bring about misery, pain, death.  But there is a truth here (unknowable by Harari and his ilk) that God reveals to us...namely, our wealth, possessions, and independence will never bring us joy, satisfaction, confidence, comfort apart from making Jesus Christ our number one priority...submitting all to Him who loved us and gave His life for us.  When we begin to understand His omnipotence and His omniscience, it gives us rest and freedom from anxious, depressive thoughts.  Jesus exhorted us with these familiar passages from Matthew 6:25-34; Zephaniah 3:17

“Do not be anxious...But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you... The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

What a balm it is to know that almighty God, not sin-compromised, human government, will take care of us as we submit to His will and purpose for our lives.  Today’s My Utmost for His Highest speaks to this freedom we can all have over anxiousness and depression:

We think it is a sign of true humility to say at the end of the day, “Well, I just barely got by today, but it was a severe struggle.” And yet all of Almighty God is ours in the Lord Jesus! And He will reach to the last grain of sand and the remotest star to bless us if we will only obey Him. If we give way to self-pity and indulge in the luxury of misery, we remove God’s riches from our lives and hinder others from entering into His provision. No sin is worse than the sin of self-pity, because it removes God from the throne of our lives, replacing Him with our own self-interests. It causes us to open our mouths only to complain, and we simply become spiritual sponges— always absorbing, never giving, and never being satisfied. And there is nothing lovely or generous about our lives.

Before God becomes satisfied with us, He will take everything of our so-called wealth, until we learn that He is our Source; as the psalmist said, “All my springs are in You” (Psalm 87:7). If the majesty, grace, and power of God are not being exhibited in us, God holds us responsible. “God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you…may have an abundance…” (2 Corinthians 9:8)— then learn to lavish the grace of God on others, generously giving of yourself. Be marked and identified with God’s nature, and His blessing will flow through you all the time.”

You will own nothing and be happy” is the statement of a Christian who has placed his or her resources, talents, blessings under the control of their Lord Jesus Christ.  It is the only true, secure, confident investment we can make.  It keeps us from “self-pity” and depression.  My prayer for you and me this morning is this:  Lord, we will keep Your promises before us.  They give us perspective, comfort, contentment and joy knowing You will bless us as we are faithful to You.  Amen

For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened.  For we who have believed enter that rest  (Hebrews 4:2-3)

Walk with the King today and be a blessing.
