The following is a copy of a letter received from the office of our state president:  Consider it a call to action!

February 2023

Dear Friends for Life,

This year, West Virginians for Life is beginning a new era in our legislative work. We took advantage of the reversal of Roe v. Wade to pass HB 302 in September, protecting most babies and their families from abortion. Now we are able to work to assist families in West Virginia who are struggling with problems associated with their pregnancies.

This year, we are supporting the passage of two bills. The first is HB 2002, The Support for Mothers and Babies Act, which establishes a fund of 1million state dollars. The fund will be managed by a third-party contractor selected by DHHR, which will distribute grants to pro-life agencies, who will then provide assistance to pregnant women and their families. When this bill passes, West Virginia will join 15 other states which offer funding to Pregnancy Resource Centers. West Virginia currently has almost 30 such centers located around the state.

Our second bill is SB 552, The Women’s Right to Know Act. This bill will reinstate laws that were repealed when the Unborn Child Protection Act (HB 302) passed in September. It will provide women who qualify for abortion exceptions with information on surgical and chemical abortions and the alternatives, and on abortion pill reversal. It will also require that families be given information on disabilities and support organizations when they are told that their unborn child has special needs.

We are proud of our new Legislative Director, Sadie Keaton, who has successfully represented us in the state legislature. Your continued contributions make it possible for us to fulfill our work as the only single-issue, pro-life organization in West Virginia. We truly appreciate your help.

 Sincerely, for Life,

 Wanda Franz, Ph.D., President

PS. Plan to attend Pro-Life Rally Day on Monday, February 13 in the lower rotunda of the State Capitol in support of this legislation.
